The Arctic Henge at Raufarhöfn will harness the Midnight Sun at the Arctic Circle and the limitless expanse where nothing encroaches on the horizon. The Henge is inspired by the cosmos and dwarf-lore of the ancient eddic poem Völuspá (Prophecy of the Seeress). According to the Prophecy the dwarfs Austri, Vestri, Norðri and Suðri hold up the heavens. In the Arctic Henge the other dwarfs have been allocated to a year-circle of 72 weeks, in which each dwarf has five days. Within the Henge will be rocks for each dwarf forming a dwarf-path, and within it an arrow that points to Polaris, the Pole Star, as well as a Sun Throne, Ray Hall and an altar of fire and water. An eight-metre-high pillar in the centre is topped with a crystal that will cast light throughout the Arctic Henge. Each Dwarf has his own role and personality, and visitors can find their own Birthday Dwarf. The Arctic Henge will be 52 metres in diameter. Construction started in 2008, and it´s planned that the Henge will open in 2010.
